How to Visit Someone in Orange County Jail

Orange County arrests often start at a city police jail and move to sheriff custody the same day. If you treat the arresting PD as the visiting address, you will miss them. Confirm housing on the current roster, then follow that building’s visiting process — application, video platform, or appointment — as posted by the agency that holds them now.

City jail vs sheriff jail
Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Fullerton, and Laguna Beach holding facilities are short-term. Visiting, if offered at all, is limited. Once the person is accepted by Orange County Sheriff’s Department custody, visiting runs under sheriff rules at intake / Santa Ana or at Theo Lacy, not under the PD’s lobby hours.

Before you visit
- Confirm the person is still in Orange County and has not been released or moved to state or federal custody.

If the goal is release, not a visit
Ask records whether bail is set and whether a hold exists. A city jail may not accept a county bond. An Orange County bond does not clear a San Diego warrant. See holds and release options.
