How to Visit Someone in San Diego County Jail

San Diego County houses people in more than one jail. A visit booked for the wrong building is a wasted trip. Confirm today’s housing on the roster, then read that facility’s current visiting rules on the sheriff’s site the morning you go. Rules change for lockdowns, medical isolation, and staffing. Do not rely on a year-old COVID line.

Match the person to a building

Before you leave home

  1. Confirm the person is still at that jail and eligible for visits.
  2. Check whether the visit is in person, on-site video, or remote video and whether you must apply in advance.
  3. Bring government photo ID for every adult. Minors usually need a parent or guardian and may need extra documents.
  4. Read dress code. Athletic shorts, tank tops, and hats get turned away.
  5. Do not bring phones into the visiting area unless the facility’s current rule allows it for video check-in.

Visiting is not release
